SMOKE TESTING SEWER LINES
The Town of Boiling Springs sewer crews will be smoke testing sewer main lines the week of August 2 thru 6, 2021. This smoke testing will assist our inspection crew in locating breaks and defects in our sewer system. This smoke is NON-TOXIC, NON-STAINING, HAS A SLIGHT ODOR, WHITE TO GRAY IN COLOR, IS HARMLESS TO PLANTS AND ANIMALS, AND CREATES NO FIRE HAZARD.
You Do Not have to be at home or on site during this testing!
On the outside of your house or your neighbor’s house you may notice smoke coming out of sewer manholes, vents on your home or building roofs, and cleanouts on your property and this is NORMAL.
On the inside of your house or building, smoke or its odor may come out of the plumbing fixture, or crawl space. This is an indication that dangerous gases and unpleasant odors from the sewer may enter your house. This should not happen if your plumbing is in good working order. The correction of any defects on private property is the responsibility of the property owner.
It is advisable to pour a gallon of water into every sink, tub, and floor drain that is NOT subject to everyday use. This will fill the p-traps and prevent smoke from entering the house or building.
If you detect smoke in your home and are uncertain about the cause, please call 911.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call Town Hall at 704.434.2357.
